Rescue Me ID: 14-10-21-00035Stacy (female)

Poodle Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

It isn't everyday that a dog gets the honor of MAYOR'S DOG OF THE WEEK. Stacy was selected from the 400 or so canine population at the high-kill shelter in Houston to receive this Mayor's award. Stacy, at just about 1 year old and 14 lbs, has the engaging personality and sweet, loving way that attracts both humans and dogs to her. Stacy's very popular at the shelter - the other pups treat her like a celebrity and all want to be her friend. She takes it all in stride.. maintaining her sweet nature and getting just a bit more attention because she's so very pleasant. Stacy has now left the shelter and has been introduced to her Texas foster ... (Read More)home while she waits for her transport to Denver...she's so excited! It's during this time period that Stacy is reminded of her house skills and fine-tunes her already great socialization skills. Stacy is unusual for a rescue pup just hours away from euthanasia at a very tough shelter...she is very well adjusted with a friendly and engaging personality. We feel that Stacy had been truly loved at some point in her life. She shows no sign of ever being intimidated or mistreated by a human or dog - she just goes about her life with a big smile and positive outlook. Farfel's is searching for either a dog-crazy family with children 10+ who would enjoy Stacy's young energy and would love a furry friend to accompany them on their adventures.. She'd be great at the soccer field or as a school mascot (She was a middle school mascot in Texas for a week and loved it!) Stacy would also be the best companion ever for an active retired couple or individual. She would be overjoyed with walking the beautiful Colorado trails and is the perfect size for joining in on almost anything. Stacy would love traveling both by car and plane (under the seat in the cabin only) and is so engaging, she'd make friends no matter where she goes. At day's end, she can wind down quickly and be a great couch companion...she'd love the belly rubs and positive attention that comes with being a best friend. Stacy is a non-shedding dog with a cotton-soft coat. She will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep her silver coat healthy, gorgeous and matt-free. Stacy will arrive on transport in Denver on 10/24. Applications are currently being accepted for this devoted best friend and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. Rescue Me ID: 14-10-21-00024Owen (male)

Poodle Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

It's hard to imagine this truly beautiful (inside & out) Schnoodle (Schnauzer/Poodle mix) in a high-kill shelter in Houston. A compassionate Farfel's rescuer saved Owen's life and is nursing his body and spirit back to joy and well-being. It's now getting to the time when Owen is ready to be transported to his new life in Colorado. Although it will be terribly hard for Owen's foster mom to say goodbye...she knows that he will have a great life. The following is a description of Owen by his foster mom: --Owen is such a sweet guy just waiting to blossom. I've enjoyed watching him learn that the world can be a loving and positive place. ... (Read More)Owen had a hard start - but now he's learning about treats, belly rubs and that he's a very valuable pup! He may very well be initially shy or frightened, but just give him a bit of time and you'll have a new best friend. Owen loves to run and play outside...he has the appropriate amount of energy for a 9 - 12 month old, approximately 14 lb healthy pup. He would do well with a family who is home alot to hike and play with and run freely at the park - he would love that! After Owen has had exercise and mental stimulation, he's ready to chill on the couch. Owen loves to snuggle, be petted and is a general love bug! He doesn't even get overly grumpy about grooming which is surprising because he had the biggest matts ever. His gorgeous, cotton-soft hair is non-shedding and will therefore require care...a periodic grooming and great nutrition would be perfect to keep his coat as beautiful as it can be. Owen appears to be fine with other dogs but appreciates those that are respectful of his smaller size. He has been great with my 12 and 15 year old daughters and me!! I haven't seen him around young kids, so that's an unknown. Owen is excellent with my mom, but might be a bit energetic for a very elderly senior. Owen is a truly smart pup - true to his breeds! What a gem of a best friend for an active family who wants to include a very cute and sweet dog in their life. He has the potential to be a truly exceptional and loyal companion. Farfel's is very excited to participate in finding this special Schnoodle his forever family. Owen will be arriving on transport in Denver on 10/24. If interested in this sweet guy who is full of love and personality, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-10-15-00183Dino (male)

Poodle Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

It's hard to imagine this truly beautiful (inside & out) Schnoodle (Schnauzer/Poodle mix) wandering the streets of Texas..so cold and skinny. A compassionate passer-by took Dino in and slowly nursed him back to health...she came to also love him and care about his welfare. We're positive that she had no idea that she was bringing him to a high-kill shelter when she dropped him off thinking he'd get a great new home. Farfel's Rescue was contacted about this wonderful Schnoodle...our TX rescuer met Dino and came to fall in love with this awesome guy who just naturally puts happy feelings into the world (you can see his huge smile in his ... (Read More)photo). Farfel's responded and will be transporting Dino to Colorado and a new life. Farfel's Rescue agrees that Dino deserves only the best after so many challenges in his life and has agreed to participate in his rehoming. Wonderful Dino is the sweetest Schnoodle around...and the very popular Schnauzer/Poodle mix is acknowledged to be one of the top mixes as a family pet. They have cotton-soft, non-shedding coats with gorgeous silver and cream coloring. They're also widely known for their great temperaments and devoted natures. The following is a description of Dino by his foster mom: Dino is such a sweetie! He loves attention and is so comical - and then plays outside in the sunshine.. He loves to snuggle, be petted and is learning to be great about grooming. His fine and cotton-like hair will require care...a periodic grooming would be perfect to keep his coat as beautiful as it can be. He doesn't shed at all. He is fine with other dogs but appears to do better with gentle, respectful dogs of a similar size. Dino is great with my 15 and 17 year old boys and me!! I haven't seen him around smaller kids. so that's an unknown. He's great and a love bug with my mom and I think he's be perfect for a senior who enjoys walks and being outside with a best friend. Dino weighs 17 lbs and is about 7 or 7.5 yrs old...a great age for a Schnoodle - old enough to have wisdom and to be quiet and cuddly.. and young enough to lots of energy to participate in all activities of life. Schnodles, as a mix, tend to live very long and healthy lives. Dino is a truly smart boy and if shown the way, always wants to please. He's very responsive to 'no' and is learning all kinds of new skills. What a gem of a dog Dino would be for retirees who seek a full-time pal who can accompany them everywhere and be a pleasure. He would also be happy with a mellow doggy companion who would play a bit and then hang out together and enjoy the day. Dino's only repercussion of his tough and neglected life are his teeth. Farfel's is happy to cover the costs of a complete dental for Dino when he arrives in Denver if our vet is used...he absolutely deserves it! Dino will arrive on transport in Denver on 10/17. If interested in this sweet and very loving companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-10-15-00148Nevin-ADOPTION PENDING (male)

Poodle Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

The Shih Tzu/Poodle is a favorite of the mixed breed dogs. We all seem to love the combination of the outgoing nature and fun personality of the Shih Tzu combined with the smart and intuitive nature of the Poodle. Nevin appears to be a perfect combo of these 2 popular breeds. His gorgeous charcoal black and silver/gray coat (the photo in no way does this beautiful guy justice) lights up his adorable face. Nevin is obviously very special...he was found wandering sadly through a Houston neighborhood and a kind TX dog-lover couldn't let him go..she brought him into her home to heal and didn't realize when she brought him to a shelter that ... (Read More)he would be euthanized. At just about 12 - 24 months old and 13 lbs, Nevin shines with an engaging and incredibly sweet disposition. He is an active and comical guy whose tail never, ever stops wagging once he's comfortable in his surroundings. He loves to be included in all fun and would love nothing more than a neighborhood walk with his family. Nevin enjoys gentle, very respectful kids 10+...he's just a small guy and wouldn't do well with any poking or tail-pulling. Nevin would be an active participant in outdoor fun in the sunshine or a walk to the park. Somewhere along the line, we think that Nevin had been given love and respect..probably because he's so capable of returning warmth and kindness. Nevin is great to take along anywhere there are groups of dog-loving people. He's a bit shy but always warms up with time and warm hugs. We feel that Nevin would do well in any home that offered him love, time (long hours left alone at home wouldn't be in the best interest of this social and sensitive pup), appropriate exercise/ mental stimulation and positive reinforcement training to make him the best dog he can possibly be. Nevin is a cuddly and very devoted pup who would do best with a family who is searching for a lap dog who they would love as a best friend. He's a very portable size and can be so easily scooped up and brought along for any adventure. He'd be a perfect travel companion..he's great in the car and can easily fit under the seat when air travel is necessary. Nevin has the beautiful coat of his breed mix (and will grow more shining and healthy as he's given great nutrition). He is a non-shedding pup and will therefore require periodic grooming to keep his coat healthy and matt-free. Nevin will arrive on transport in Colorado on 10/17. If interested in this comical and very loving guy, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-10-15-00037Jade (female)

Poodle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

No one would blame Jade for being a bit traumatized! This sensitive girl was taken from the only home and family she had ever had. This was through no fault of her own...her mom had to move into a senior facility - No Dogs Allowed! We hope that Jade can serve as a lesson to us all...if you're a senior citizen or even a younger person, plans must be made in writing for your pets. If this doesn't occur, that devoted fuzzy friend will most often be placed in a high-kill municipal shelter. Jade is definitely one of the lucky ones...her inner (and outer) beauty spoke volumes and our TX rescuer couldn't say no (and we're so glad she ... (Read More)couldn't!) Jade is an absolutely adorable Shih Tzu mix...her soft coat just begs to be stroked. Our hearts go out to this lovely girl...she's anxious about the abrupt changes in her life (who wouldn't be??) and needs the patience, kindness and love of a true dog-lover to bring the spring back to her step. Jade is just about 4 years old (very young for a Shih Tzu mix as they have very long life spans) and weighs only about 8 or so lbs...the perfect weight to fit just right on any lap. That would bring Jade the greatest joy - to again have that warm lap, soft strokes and calm, loving words. While Jade is worried about her future...a home that can offer this type of companionship will make her shine brightly again. Jade is initially quite shy when she meets someone. If she's given a few minutes however...her endearing and kind personality will emerge. She absolutely loves women while being shyer with men. She just needs some time and kindness (and a treat will help) to adjust to males. Jade would also be intimidated by the loud voices and fast movements of young kids. We therefore envision Jade in an adult-only home. She would absolutely be the most devoted and snuggly best friend that a retired woman could imagine! Jade isn't a pup that require lots of exercise....a fenced yard for sunning would be lovely or leisurely walks along Colorado paths would fit the bill as well. Jade would be so happy just to be hanging out close to a friendly, like-sized dog sibling and a favorite person (or people) ...after all, you never know when there's an empty lap or a loving hand. Right now, a great match would be a family who just wants the most devoted (over time) and loving full-time companion. With true love and respect, Jade will return these emotions a million times over. Jade has the most beautiful, non-shedding coat imaginable and it will grow more so with time and great nutrition. She will therefore require periodic grooming to keep her coat silky-soft and matt-free. Jade will arrive on transport in Boulder on 10/18. If interested in this snuggly and sweet girl (with the cutest snaggle tooth ever), please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-10-11-00176Bamboo-PENDING! (male)

Poodle Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

What a sweet and kind Tibetan/Poodle our Bamboo is! Is that a Tibpoo or a Pootan..we're not sure but it's a designer breed mix that is opportunistically being bred for their adorable looks, non-shedding cotton-soft coats and great temperaments. As a result of this human greed, these pups are being bred, sold for very high prices or dumped if they have any challenges. Farfel's is very happy to rescue these dogs and find them nurturing and committed homes. At 12 - 24 months old and just about 15 lbs, Bamboo is an incredibly beautiful guy . We all know Bamboo has arrived when we see the wag that starts at his tail and becomes a full-blown ... (Read More)body wiggle...Bamboo is greeting either a friend or anyone who has the potential to be a future playmate. He is initially cautious...assessing the situation to make sure all is OK. This makes perfect sense as he's been through time spent at a high-kill shelter waiting for his pending euthanasia date. When he was identified with a great temperament, Farfel's spoke up to bring Bamboo to safety (and a new forever family) in Colorado. Once he senses that all present are his friends, Bamboo is so warm and friendly that he always hopes every pat and kind word will turn into a friend. Both people and other dogs are drawn to Bamboo for his kind attitude and playful ways. He is learning to play fetch and waits expectantly...with his eyes so bright and joyful..to run off again after the ball. Bamboo seems to have a bit of leash experience as he's developed some skills and seems to love the experience. Farfel's Rescue has determined that Bamboo needs a mellow home where he is an active and important member of the family. We feel that this would be more possible in an adult home (retirees would be perfect) where there's a more predictable environment. Bamboo would be overjoyed to spend parts of the day together either hiking or walking through the beauty of Colorado. Then at day's end, he's the ultimate snuggler and sleeps soundly through the night. It is Bamboo's love affair with life and all the hardships that he's suffered along the way that motivates us to put Bamboo through Heartworm treatments..his precious life deserves to be saved! Bamboo has tested low HW+ and Farfel's (with the help of Rescued Pets Movement of Houston and Dr G in Denver) has volunteered to save this very special dog's life. The heart worm treatment process involves several shots followed by a short period of quiet time for the dog. We have found this protocol to be very successful and the dogs go on to live long, happy lives. We are seeking an adopter to lovingly care for Bamboo as he becomes Heartworm negative. It's quite an easy rehab process as it only entails mellow time with soft words and belly rubs. Farfel's will pay the vet bills and provide premium food and treats for this special pup as he becomes healthily heartworm-free. Bamboo (like all dogs) would benefit from positive reinforcement obedience classes that included the whole family - he is a super-smart guy who truly wants to please. Great training will give Bamboo the skills to be an excellent adult dog. These type of classes will also bring out the great qualities of this Tibethan/Poodle as well as creating a tightly-knit bonding with all family members . Bamboo is a non-shedding pup with a beautiful coat with such distinctive markings. He will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his hair healthy and matt-free. Bamboo will arrive on transport in Denver on 10/17. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If interested in this sweet and devoted companion, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com. (Less)

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

We think Snow's foster mom described this exceptional 2 - 3 year old gorgeous Poodle to perfection -- Snow is so, so, so, SWEET! Not a mean bone in her body. She was a bit insecure when I first met her which is completely understandable...she was in a high-kill shelter after being used only for her amazing beauty...her emotional well-being was never considered. Snow apparently wasn't able to reproduce as was hoped and therefore served no further use...euthanasia was the obvious answer to opportunistic breeders. It was Snow's great fortune that a Farfel's rescuer heard of her and saved her life. Snow is a 2.5 - 3 yr. old, 17 lb miniature ... (Read More)poodle. Living in a cage for over a year solely to reproduce (never seeing the sun, smelling the outdoors or experiencing human kindness) was the story of Snow's sad early life. When it became clear that Snow had an endearing personality and great behavior, arrangements were made for her transport to Colorado and a new and wonderful life. Snow is now being fostered in Denver while she waits patiently for her special home. She's getting more secure each day and snuggles like a love bug, loves to play, walks on a leash nicely, rides in the car, goes to the dog park, and walks into PetSmart with great self-esteem! Snow is true to her breed...so very smart without any aggression. My attached picture doesn't do Snow justice at all...she is far more gorgeous (both inside and out) than the camera picks up. I'll be posting more and better photos of Snow shortly. Snow needs and deserves a loving home - someone with patience and energy (perhaps group training class or meet-ups for Snow to interact with other small dogs) would be a gift to this girl who has all the potential in the world. She would love being someone's sweet lap dog and best friend! Snow is a non-shedding pup (said to be the most hypoallergenic of breeds) with a gorgeous, cotton-like coat. She will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep her cotton-soft coat healthy and matt-free. Snow will be arriving on transport in Denver on 10/10.  Fearful/Anxious

Hi, my name's Petey! I love to play fetch in the house. I love to snuggle. I have so much personality that I will crack you up! I didn't have much structure growing up. This means that I have a few simple rules. 1) I always need to have an Alamo. This is some sort of cozy area. 2) I need to be taken out every 8 hours or so. Otherwise, I will go in the house. My bladder is small. 3) I growl when I feel threatened. If you pet me while I'm growling, I may bite you. My mom and dad will soon have a baby that is too stupid to know my rules. This makes them nervous because I growl at random dogs and strangers. One time, my dad was telling ... (Read More)this stranger not to come into my car because I was growling at him. The stranger said it would be okay and came in anyway - so I bit the fool! Turns out the stranger was my dad's friend. How was I supposed to know?! Also, I sometimes bite vet's when they poke me with stuff or groomers who cut my nails. Now when I go to the vet or groomer, my dad holds me or I have a muzzle. I would never bite my mom, dad, sister dog, or someone who stopped approaching me when I started growling. But, that stupid baby won't even know which toys are mine! If you 'get' dogs and would like to save me, I will make your life awesome! I am loyal, affection-driven, energetic and playful. Save me?! (Less)
