Rescue Me ID: 16-05-02-00367Freemont (male)

Poodle Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Freemont is a 11lb, 2 year old Yorkiepoo. He may have some other breeds in him, but we do believe that he seems to be mostly Yorkie and poodle. Freemont was dumped on the streets of TX when his family did not want him anymore. Scared and alone he started wandering trying to find safety and food, when he somehow injured his shoulder. We are not too sure if he fell, or was hit by a car, but the poor little guy was in a lot of pain. Someone found him and brought him to the TX animal shelter. Our rescue stepped up to help him since the shelter could not pay for his treatment. He is now in CO and is making a full recovery. He had ... (Read More)shoulder surgery and the vet believes he will be able to use it again. Freemont's foster mom just raves about how amazing he his! Here is what the foster has to say about him: 'Freemont is fully potty trained and seems to be very smart. Freemont gets along great with my other dog and they even snuggle together. So far he does not seem to play, but that might change as he heals more. Freemont's two favorite activities are cuddling and going on walks. His Shoulder injury does not stop him at all from wanting to go on walks, and it will only get better! Whenever I am home he loves to follow me around the house, and the second I sit down on the couch he is right there next to me. He loves all people and dogs and will make a great addition to any family' Freemont is now searching for his forever home and he so deserves it. He has so much love to give and will bring someone so much happiness. If you are interested in adopting Freemont, please email us for an application at sunshinecanyondr@gmail.com (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-04-28-00462Perry (male)

Poodle    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Perry is a 7 year old, 7lb, miniature poodle who was found on the streets of TX. When he was found he was bleeding and couldn't walk. The vet determined that he had been attacked by a big dog, probably while trying to find food on the streets. Perry was incredibly lucky to be alive. Perry is now here in CO and we are working on getting him the medical attention he needs. He not only had a broken pelvis, but is heart worm positive too. He is so itty bitty and sweet it is hard for us to imagine what human could have let him down. We know there is someone out there who can show Perry love, and help him heal. We do believe he has the potential ... (Read More)to be a happy, healthy little guy with time and patience. We are willing to do whatever it takes to get him there, and will pay for all the medical bills. Perry is so sweet and such a love. His foster mom says he follows her around the house all the time and loves to be with her. He gets along with all of her dogs, but cannot play with them yet as he is still healing. He likes going outside to explore but will still get tired pretty easily right now so he will come back inside, and then start again where he left off once he is ready. His foster mom says he is starting to perk up and she can already see a difference in him and his energy level. He is a quiet dog and right now pretty mellow, we are not sure if that will last forever, but it does seem to be part of his personality. He would be so happy to have someone to just sit and give him ear and belly scratches all day. He has the most adorable face and will just stare at his foster mama until she sits to cuddle him. If you are interested in giving Perry a forever home, please email us at sunshinecanyondr@gmail.com (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-04-27-00191Melia (female)

Poodle Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Melia was so fearful as she came into a very high-kill Texas shelter. After all, she's a sensitive and very kind girl...and through it all she seemed like an old soul taking it all in. She was never nasty or snippy..just initially fearful of new people who might hurt her. She soon found out otherwise and has spent parts of her shelter time on the laps of personnel...needless to say that she's a favorite. It just isn't in her nature to be anything but sweet. Melia, at just 8 months old and 9 lbs (anticipated to be approximately 11 lbs when full-grown) represents the sad irresponsibility that is so present when pet guardians choose not to ... (Read More)spay/neuter. These unwanted dogs deserve a great life every bit as much as any other living being. Melia has a wonderful disposition and through it all, still has the desire to love and be loved. While initially shy..she comes around quickly with those who are kind and respectful. She loves to snuggle and show her devotion in so many ways. Melia enjoys her relationships with gentle dogs as well...it seems that she derives confidence from being around these positive-energy pups. Melia tries so hard to show that she's worthy of a permanent family. Her little tail wags hesitantly when she sees a possibility for a pat or any kind gesture. She would be overjoyed if she got loving attention and it would bring a light to those dark, expressive eyes! Farfel's is searching for that special family for this exceptional Schnauzer/Poodle mix..or Schnoodle (at least that's what the shelter vets tell us Melia is..all we know is that she's so adorable!). Melia is about to get her first grooming day..there won't be a more beautiful girl when she's provided with skin/hair care and great nutrition. Her silky silver hair will frame the kind glow in her eyes that speak of a gentle soul. We're searching for a very kind family that wants to spend quality time with this adorable girl. Melia would learn from the gentle guidance and time put in by people who love her and she'll return that devotion a million times over. Farfel's feels that Melia would enjoy retirees or a family with older, dog-crazy children who will be gentle and loving toward the this sweet pup. A positive reinforcement group training class would also be great for bonding between Melia and her people. It's a new world for this sensitive puppy and she'll be so successful with the knowledge that she is loved and chosen to be a member of a very special family. Melia appears to be a non-shedding dog and will therefore require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition to bring out the beauty and excellent health of her cottony-soft coat. Melia will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 4/29/16. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If you're interested in this sweet and very loving companion, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-04-23-00107Petunia (female)

Poodle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Petunia is an incredibly cute ball of cottony fur that climbs into your heart (and lap) with a wag. Her photo in no way does this amazing spirit justice...once Petunia gets a sudsy bath and grooming, she'll absolutely be one of the cutest pups around. Her silver coat with tips of black is so striking and her dark eyes so wise and kind - Petunia is quite the gorgeous girl! At 2.5 - 3 years old and about 12 lbs, Petunia is every bit the young and happy girl as well as a lap-dog extraordinaire. Initially, we have to remember that Petunia has been through time at a very high-kill shelter...a very scary experience. Once she understands that ... (Read More)she's loved and respected, Petunia falls in love quickly. Farfel's Rescue desire is to nurture a positive vision of the world by matching Petunia to a family who expresses their devotion for her in many different ways. We'd like Petunia to attend positive reinforcement group obedience group classes to be the very best dog she's capable of. It appears that Petunia (once bonded) will soak up positive feedback with every effort to be the best behaved girl around. We feel that Petunia would be overjoyed with active retirees who have the time and desire to have a fuzzy best friend. Petunia would bask in their love and her self-esteem would soar. Petunia would also be happy with very gentle older children or a dog-loving adult family who will include her in their activities and truly enjoy her companionship. Petunia is so portable that she can easily be a constant best friend. She would love nothing more than walks in the sunshine, trips to the store (she's a great window-shopping friend) or even a place at a pet-friendly workplace. Once bonded, Petunia can be introduced to virtually any situation...and if there is love and gentle guidance...she can succeed. It is Petunia's love affair with life and all the hardships that she's suffered along the way that motivates us to put Petunia through Heartworm treatments..her precious life deserves to be saved! Petunia has tested low HW+ and Farfel's (with the help of Dr G in Denver) has volunteered to save this very special dog's life. The heart worm treatment process involves several shots followed by a short period of quiet time for the dog. We have found this protocol to be very successful and the dogs go on to live long, happy lives. We are seeking an adopter to lovingly care for Petunia as she becomes Heartworm negative. It's quite an easy rehab process as it only entails mellow time with soft words and belly rubs. Farfel's will pay the vet bills and provide premium food and treats for this special girl as she becomes healthily heartworm-free. Petunia is a non-shedding pup. She will therefore require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep her coat cottony-soft and matt-free. This regimen will bring out the unusual coloring and softness of Petunia's amazing coat. Petunia is arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 4/29/16. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If interested in this very loving and cuddly best friend, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730. (Less)

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We understand that Buddy's guardian had no choice but to part with this very sweet guy. The woman's health had been going downhill for years and with it her care of her Poodles. We're not certain if she knew that they were being turned into a very high-kill shelter..but do understand her necessity. Compassionate New Mexico rescuers recognized the love this wonderful dog could bring to a family and contacted Farfel's. We are so happy to speak up for Buddy and search for a kind and nurturing home for him. Buddy is the perfect best friend for a family searching for that very loving lap or couch dog. Buddy, at approximately 8 - 9 years old ... (Read More)(these smaller mixes can live very long lives with great nutrition and care) and 20 lbs is a dream guy for those whose lifestyle is mellow. Buddy would be overjoyed with a guardian that is searching for a full-time companion. He would be such a sweet-tempered love bug to take on a walk or a car ride to go anywhere that a wonderful dog is allowed. He may be small but once Buddy is exposed to a take-along lifestyle, he will be thrilled to spend his time with the Colorado sunshine warming his back. We envision Buddy in a quiet home...he appears to like kids but the activity and noise level of young children on a full-time basis aren't compatible with his quiet personality. Buddy enjoys other dogs his own size who will be gentle...he's fine with sharing the couch, the yard and even a warm lap. Buddy's foster has noticed that Buddy(like his siblings) enjoys classical music. Any time it comes on in the house, the car or anywhere for that matter, Buddy's little head cocks sideways and you swear you see him sway to the soft music. We feel it brings him a calmness that he finds so enjoyable. A retired individual or couple who love adorable adult dogs with cotton-soft hair, amazing personalities, (once they get over their initial shyness), great house manners and taste in fine music would be the perfect forever spot for this wonderful little dog. Buddy is a non-shedding guy (and considered to be one of the most hypoallergenic mixes available). He will therefore require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his cottony-soft coat healthy and matt-free. Buddy will be arriving on transport in Denver on Saturday 4/23/16. Poodle Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see adorable young puppies. Koda and Kyloh are the kind of puppies that snuggle in, love you up and then put their heads on your shoulder. They're so sweet and social with every possibility open to them. That's the case unless a puppy is in a high-kill shelter that quickly runs out of space or living in the shadows on a scary city street. We're so grateful for the efforts of our great rescuers and fosters in Tijuana, Mexico for saving Koda and Kyloh from abuse and certain euthanasia. She could see that their temperaments were so sweet and their needs so great that she couldn't turn her back ... (Read More)on these very special pups who have their whole life lying in front of them. Koda and Kyloh were immediately brought to be vetted, spayed/neutered, given the appropriate vaccinations, granted health certificates and brought to a dog-loving foster to begin their education as cherished house dogs. When we think of rescue, our thoughts don't usually go onto the tough streets of Tijuana. But these forgotten dogs deserve our help every bit as much as their US counterparts. They all have been used for opportunistic purposes...to either breed and discard or to sell as a puppy to a Mexican mill or rich tourists. Virtually all of them have lived on the streets and survived by learning to be social. They love people because compassionate tourists were their means of survival. They can sit in any language and fit quietly into any scene to earn a treat or discarded meal. This was the life waiting for Koda and Kyloh. From birth they cared for each other..the other pup's welfare always being first priority. We believe that it was this supportive and very loving relationship that got Koda and Kyloh through their challenges on the streets. It is for this reason that we'll only consider adopting these beautiful puppies out as a bonded pair. They're truly a case of two is easier than one..they entertain, play with and calm each other. Of course, first choice will always be a loving lap or a belly rub from their favorite person. Koda (apricot Poodle female) and Kyloh (silver/black Schnauzer/Poodle male) are just about 8 months old and 15 lbs. This is such a perfect size to be able accompany their family just about anywhere and fit right in due to their great temperaments and very positive outlooks on life. While initially shy..these amazing puppies come around when they sense love and nurturing. Koda and Kyloh are already starting to understand that sweet, cuddly and cooperative behavior makes great things happen in life. They were two of the extremely lucky young pups to master their socialization skills at a very early age and endear themselves to the US rescuers. There was no way this twosome was going to be left behind! We all have a clear picture of these very sweet and fun-loving pups in a forever Colorado home with a family that cherishes them for life. We would like to see Koda and Kyloh in a home that includes them in family time and activities (and some lap-time would be perfect!)... and takes that extra step to participate in positive reinforcement obedience classes. These classes take very smart puppies like Koda and Kyloh and molds them into great family members that can behave appropriately in any situation. Koda and Kyloh would also be wonderful companions for active retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with truly adorable young pups. Koda and Kyloh would enjoy other gentle dogs to play with... they're so sweet and gentle as they put positive energy into enjoying the day with a friend. Koda and Kyloh, as non-shedders, will require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (an additional salmon oil supplement would be perfect) to keep their very beautiful coats healthy and matt-free. Koda and Kyloh are being fostered in Boulder. Applications are currently being accepted for our sweet, silly and very endearing puppies with the beautiful faces and dark, expressive eyes. If interested in these fun and entertaining best friends, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730. (Less)

Stuart is a 3 yea old, 21lbs, Poodle/Havanese/maybe terrier? mix. Stuart was dumped at a shelter in Houston Texas with 7 other dogs. When they were brought to the shelter none of them had any fur, and they were all neglected and terrified. The woman who dumped them requested that the shelter euthanize them just because she did not want to take care of them anymore (not that she had been taking care of them in the first place) and she did not believe that they were adoptable and did not care. Our rescue saw the potential of these sweet babies and took in all 8 to get them healthy and hopefully to eventually find them forever homes. Some ... (Read More)were more emotionally damaged than others, and unfortunately Stuart was the worst of the group. He is just SO SWEET and has never shown any signs of aggression, but it is very clear that humans have not been so kind to him and he is very skittish and terrified. At this point all of Stuarts hair has grown back and he is a healthy, handsome little boy! He has now been in foster care for almost 3 months and we are starting to look for a forever home for him. Stuart gets along with all dogs and cats. His foster mom lives alone and he has really come out of his shell with her. He sleeps in her bed now with the rest of the dogs in the house, and absolutely LOVES to play fetch and chase with all the other dogs. Stuart loves to snuggle with his foster mom and is pretty much her shadow all the time. When guests come to the house Stuart quickly retreats and goes back into his kennel. He does not get aggressive in any way, but you can tell he is still scared of people, especially if he has not had time learn to trust them. Stuart is fully potty trained and is truly the sweetest and best dog. His long legs allow him to do incredibly fast zumies in the back yard and to out run all the other dogs :) At this time we think it would be best to find Stuart a home with a family that has lots of patience and can work to earn Stuarts trust, and a family that understands how rewarding it will be once he becomes a wonderful dog. We would prefer a home without kids just because a lower key home seems to be what Stuarts enjoys most. A back yard is a must for Stuart so he can do his zumies and play fetch with his new family. It would be awesome if his new family has a dog that he can learn from and gain confidence from, but that is not a must. We just want Stuart to be loved and appreciated for the great little guy he is! If you are interested in adopting Stuart, please email us for an application at sunshinecanyondr@gmail.com (Less)

Gunner is a 12lb, 3 year old, Lhasa Apso/Havanese mix. Gunner was turned into a high kill shelter in Texas because his family did not have the income to take care of a dog properly. Gunner came to the shelter with a broken leg, and the family was not clear about his is happened. Gunner has now had his leg fixed and is doing incredibly well! He runs around with the other foster dogs and loves to play with his foster mom too. Gunners foster says: 'he is a doll- very sweet, lovable, happy, and ignores the cats entirely. He loves to snuggle with us our bed at night or in a bed right next to ours. . He gets along very well with my dogs ... (Read More)and his disposition is just amazing. He walks great on a leash and loves to run and play in the back yard my other dogs. He loves to be brushed and get belly scratches. He also loves treats so is very trainable. He will make such a great addition to any family. Gunner would do well in a home with kids, cats, or dogs. He is very easy going and just brightens up everybody's day' We do believe that gunner is a low-non shedding dog, but since we cannot make any guarantees about his breed, we would not suggest someone with allergies adopting him. Gunner just needs a family to call his own and a family that will love him and brag about his cute, scruffy face! He has SO much love to give and just wants a family that will appreciate his wonderful personality and not take it for granted.
