Rescue Me ID: 15-01-05-00568Maxfield Parrich (male)

Poodle Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

I have the Peter Pan Syndrome. Maxfield was born April 19, 2005 and weighs almost 70 lbs. He sure is a looker and has no clue how old he is so if you are looking for the lay around, eat, and be happy senior dog he is not for you. He adores green beans with no salt, please! Maxfield would like his humans around much of the time, he does have separation anxiety and a Thunder Shirt may be of some help with this. We are also told he will jump on people, but we have not seen this yet, but we are so used to bad behaviors and having to curve them that the dogs respect us. We also feel that Maxfield would like another good size dog to play ... (Read More)with, he's having fun here and a female may be his preference from what we've seen here. He came as a poodle mix, but we are guessing Golden because his tail hair is wavy but very long! He is house trained, good on leash and in the car. We have found that Maxfield cannot be crated. There is not child aggressive, but there are thoughts that he may knock them over from time to time so no little kids and he is not good with cats, too rough. A very nice note came with him: 'Maxfield is bright and rambunctious and loves long walks, running, the outdoors and playing with other dogs. He loves people as well, but can invade their personal space quickly if not redirected. He was originally adopted from a breeder by my mother, dog lover extraordinaire and high school librarian, as a puppy in 2005, while her only daughter was away at college. Maxfield enjoyed being an 'only child' going on trips with his mom to North Carolina and the beach, attending his sister's bridal shower and walking around his neighborhood. He took obedience classes as a puppy, but they were not very successful, for at 9 years old he still jumps and can get excited when meeting new humans. Loud environmental noises may scare him and he will bark loudly, but will calm after initial excitement. He responds to commands: sit, stay and down and knows food as cookies. He was given to Joyful Rescues after his mom developed a brain tumor, secondary to metastatic breast cancer. She no longer had the physical strength to care for him. Maxfield was named after Maxfield Parrish, a popular landscape artist of the mid 20th century, famous for his color 'Parrish blue'. Maxfield does have a history of separation anxiety and will eat any food lying around, wrappers included. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-11-10-00694Judo (female)

Poodle Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Judo was born December 23, 2013 and will probably top out in the 65-75 # range. Every mill dog does best going into a home with another 'normal' dog. A woman that has befriended a group of millers in central New York has promised to see nothing, hear nothing, and say nothing as long as the millers hand dogs over to her once they are through with them instead of killing them. She then distributes the 'used' dogs to rescues and sends many here. This group was only marginal fearful of us, so not too bad. In this load the fur wasn't too bad compared to what we've seen, but the adult dogs had normal mill dog teeth where you can't see any ... (Read More)white at all and when you check the teeth your fingers smell like you've just put them inside a rotting carcass. They will be getting dentals, but a single dental doesn't undo the damage done for so many years and will need to be done on a rather regular basis until the teeth are all gone or the erosion ceases from your good care. We will be working on house training, but surely you will have work to do in this area and we have wonderful notes to help you. These are notes that have had the best success with mill dogs. So, if I've not deterred you by this, brutally honest, depressing description by now and you still feel that you want to help one of these dogs and experience the magical joy of watching one of them decide they can love a human and become a real dog or as real as they will ever become, go ahead and e mail and ask us to send you our 'Working will Mill Dog Notes' and we will be happy to do so. Adopting one of these dogs is not so much about you as it is about the dog, it is an amazingly unselfish thing to do. You will be rewarded in the long run, but it may take awhile. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-10-13-00801Pru Bonadio (female)

Poodle Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

The Bonadio Group, 171 Sully's Trail, Pittsford, NY sponsored the transport that brought 40 dogs north out of a high kill pound in TN. How high kill???? Well, while Katie was busy making the very difficult choices she has to make down there, she accidentally entered the wrong door and there was Emma a healthy, young, medium sized, black girl who was on a table, tail just a wagging not minding that her arm was being shaved, while enjoying all the attention she was getting from a couple of the staff. Little did she realize that the needle that was now 2 inches from her arm was going to stop her heart from beating and her tail would never ... (Read More)wag again. The procedure was STOPPED and Emma was immediately loaded in the truck! We also took George who was next in line because they couldn't afford to treat him and he was painfully thin. We are working on George and hope that it is only worms and we'll be able to make him better. He is one really sweet boy and we love him already. We also took a pretty, really sweet, Cocker named Sammy who has massive ear infections, one eye is turned rather inside out and the other looks odd so he will need some very special vet care, but we have him in the best foster home for the blind and he's happy as can be. There are 37 others with their own stories, but these are the three heart breakers so far. The staff at his shelter do the best they can and truly love these dogs but their resources are incredibly limited. Thank you Bonadio Group, an accounting, business and financial services firm providing audit, tax and business consulting services, for making this trip, which runs about $800.00, possible!!!!! All dogs from the south are heart worm tested, but they cannot be tested until they are about 6 months old. So, if you choose a puppy from this group you must keep that puppy on heart worm 'preventative' at least through it's 7th month just in case it is carrying the larvae. As for Pru, don't tell her she is older, she doesn't want to hear it. When you look into her eyes you will smile and forget her age too. You'll want to love her to pieces for as long as she has left. She was born about August 23, 2002 and weighs 15 lbs. She is wonderful with other dogs and did fine on the ride here. She is wiggly, happy, and ready to snuggle. She will be getting a dental soon so be ready to see those pearly whites! This is all we know so far, we'll be learning as we go. (Less)
