Rescue Me ID: 16-04-28-00591Pooh (male)

Poodle Mix

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Date into Rescue: 3/23/16 Reason for being in rescue: found as a stray Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Weight: 11 lbs Height: est 10' Adoption Fee: $ Fence needed? no What kind of home would be best for me? Pooh would thrive best in a family home with older children and another small dog to play with and pass the time. What is my personality like? Pooh can be a little nervous at first, but once he warms up he is one silly little boy. He gets more confident around other small dogs, and when he's more confident, his true personality comes out. Pooh makes the cutest little faces and expressions and can ... (Read More)always bring a smile to your face. Pooh is super sweet and enjoys a little love and affection. He's not a huge fan of his crate and will let you know that he would much rather be out and about, but Pooh is getting better with his crate training everyday and hops right in at night! How I act when I first meet new people: Shy at first, but with a little time, will warm up. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. No What kind of home would be best for me? A quiet home where everyone takes their time and is kind and gentle. Carlton is a quiet, kind and gentle kind of guy. What is my personality like? Sweet, a bit shy and a little afraid things might hurt him. As he has gotten more comfortable and confident, he's doing better with timidity. He will never be a social butterfly but he has the potential to ... (Read More)make a quiet person an excellent pet. Carlton is an omega dog - dogs that are the least bit dominant pick on Carlton and while he will defend himself a bit, it's not much. He would do better with a laid back, happy dog friend who will share and share alike. Or he could do well as an only dog. We have had Carlton for several months trying to figure out his behavior. Rescue Me ID: 16-02-24-00649Rowdy Edwards (male)

Poodle    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Date into Rescue: 02/18/2016 Reason for being in rescue: owner release/life with new baby is not working out Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? none known Weight: est 52 lbs Height: est 22' at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $349 Fence needed? yes for even at his age his energy level is very high. his previous family insists on a fenced in yard for Rowdy to bounce around in. What kind of home would be best for me? An adult only home with no plans for children. Rowdy has had a loving home for all of his life but the newborn baby came and he is very unhappy. Rather than risk danger to their child putting ... (Read More)Rowdy in a bad situation the owners very lovingly released him to CPR. What is my personality like? We have an extensive personality description from the previous owner that will be shared with the new owner . To hit the good points - this dog loves to ride in a car, is house trained and crate trained. He is good for grooming (but he prefers fuzzy feet), His owner describes him as 'intelligent, highly trainable, relational and very loving to his people. a big time snuggler who follows his people around the house his best home is described as a 'peaceful, quiet environment with a lot of love and attention.' And now the challenges - Rowdy is a highly dominant dog who needs a female owner who can be firmly and lovingly in control. 'He requires a human who is firm yet loving and kind. He will take advantage of you if you let him so he needs someone who can be calm yet assertive. Like children, he wants to know that you are the boss and when he understands that he feels secure and happy.' Rowdy has a bite history with the toddler in his home. He also has trouble accepting strange men although he was fine with the husband of the couple who gave him to us. This is fully explained in the documents we have. He is a counter surfer and trash can robber when your not looking . He has some separation anxiety and would be best in a home with people who are home all day. He can be crated and while he may cause a fuss, he will tolerate it. Rowdy does well with laid back dogs who will let him take the lead. He will most likely thrive in a home with such a dog who will help him by being a good example of positive behavior. How I act when I first meet new people: To women he is a bit fearful but warms up. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: birthdate 11/9/2007 Please note - we do not ship dogs.     Meet Paxey!!!!!! This little guy was found in the woods by some kind people. To prevent him from goign to Animal Control, we picked him up and took him to the Vet where he stayed overnight and they gave him a hair cut. How different he looks. They said he was a good boy, but cataracts have taken his vision. He did not potty in his kennel the whole night, he whines when he needs to go out, walks well on a leash. Rescue Me ID: 15-10-11-00282Buckles of Sweetwater (female)

Poodle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Date into Rescue: 08/01/2015 Reason for being in rescue: owner turn into shelter Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Yes - Diabetes Insipidus Weight: 13 lbs Height: est 13' Adoption Fee: I'm special Fence needed? Yes - Buckles is very active and loves to run. What does Diabetes Insipidus mean? Buckles drinks water - all day - and urinates frequently as a result. This is a rare form of diabetes that is caused by a deficiency of the pituitary hormone (vasopressin) which regulates kidney function. This disorder is very uncommon and is not curable. Buckles is currently on a hormone-replacement medication (given ... (Read More)through eye drops). It is helping a little but we do not know that this is going to be her permanent cure. We are working with her to find out what works best. What is my personality like? Buckles is spunky, friendly and loving. She is energetic and must have a fenced in yard to run in. She gets along with other dogs and cats - and would be a great playmate to another dog her size or larger. Buckles is eager to please and bonds quickly. Buckles does have a 'house training' issue only because of her condition. For someone who is retired and is home all the time, her house training isn't much of a problem. She must be taken outside every two hours, and her house training is basically controlled. Buckles cannot be deprived of water as it can be fatal to her. How I act when I first meet new people: House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Rescue Me ID: 15-08-30-00266Annabelle (female)

Poodle Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Annabelle! Breed: Standard Poodle mixed with Great Pyrenees Gender: Female Date into Rescue: 12/3/2014 Reason for being in rescue: Owner surrender, could not care for Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Separation anxiety, cannot be crated Weight: Est 60 lbs, needs to gain a lot Height: Est 24' Age: Birthdate is estimated to be December 2009 What is my personality like? Annabelle is a love bug. She is so sweet and friendly, although nervous and over food the worst of her personality comes out. Who I am seeking: Annabelle needs an only dog home but for only one reason - you must feed Annabelle ... (Read More)separately. She's very food aggressive with other dogs. If you can and will control the dogs during feeding, for instance putting them in separate rooms or put the other dog(s) into their own personal spaces, you are fine. You can't even fix food around Annabelle and other dogs. Humans can do anything they please with her food, treats and bowl but not another dog. No no keep your paws and your muzzle to yourself. It may have something to do with her being about 2/3 of her normal body weight when she came to us. Never knowing if your going to get a next meal or when isn't a confidence builder. Annabelle has been passed around several times in her life and we are committed to finding her very last and forever home. In the meantime, she is both virtually adoptable as we help her work through many medical problems. We're all still hoping one day the perfect home will come for Annabelle. Annabelle knows how to sit, and loves to work for treats. Annabelle has been xrayed and has been confirmed with hip dysplasia but you would be hard pressed to tell when you see her playing in the fields. She runs with the best of them. However, because of the hips a home without stairs would be her best bet. Annabelle is heart worm positive. She is on what is called slow kill which is simply her monthly heartworm preventative. It must be an ivermectin based product (Triheart, Heartguard or Iverhart Max). We're hoping that she will test negative in the next year. Annabelle has a BFF named Halibut that she has bonded to and he has been a huge confidence builder for her Our best case scenario? That someone sees that Annabelle is a love in spite of her food issues She is most likely have a more shortened live than other does because of her medical issues. We'd love her to have a home of her own for the time she has. How I act when I first meet new people: Friendly (Less)

He does have a dominate side to him, so he needs a very strong owner who has experience. He has manners and is well trained but enforcing this takes a strong leader. Jackson knows sit and lay, he is house trained and crate trained. He would do best as an only dog, as he does not get along with most. He does okay with submissive large female dogs only. Jackson is also not a big fan of kids. He does great with strong adults. He is a happy and playful dog who loves to chase a tennis ball! Age: 2/24/2009 Who am I seeking? A very strong leader who has experience with dominant large dogs. A home where there is no other animals except him. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-05-28-00045Tango of Raleigh (male)

Poodle    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Tango! Breed: standard poodle Gender: Male Adoption Fee: $399 Date into Rescue: 05/18/2015 Reason for being in rescue: owner release, can not handle Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? high prey drive, intense exercise Weight: est 55 lbs needs to be 70 Height: est 27' Fence needed? It is essential and Tango will only go to a home with a large and secure physically fenced yard. What kind of home would be best for me? Absolutely no children under 18. No cats. No other dogs . Tango needs a person with a firm understanding of dog behavior and of behavior modification using only positive reinforcement. ... (Read More)He needs a strong and confident owner who knows and loves the standard poodle and wants to see this one reach his full potential (which is huge). Tango has not had an easy time of life so far and we want to change that but we're totally aware that he is not going to be easy to handle at all. Tango's first owner put a shock collar on him at 18 weeks old. Then they forced this active, happy puppy to go to an office every day and sit. and sit. and sit. Then they put him through an ugly divorce. Undoing that damage is going to take some persistence, dog knowledge and experience. His first owner and one other owner used a prong collar, another forced behavior tool. No more . What is my personality like? With people, he is loving and sweet 95% of the time. At our poodle farm, when he first got here he showed aggression towards humans when around other dogs. Last summer when in a home briefly, he mouthed, he charged and was extremely aggressive on several occasions. There were specific triggers - the first was a cat walking by outside. The second was a middle of the night altercation when one owner left the bed and Tango claimed the spot and then would not relinquish it. There were also altercations during walks down hallways. The family who had Tango did not always identify a trigger but we feel that the triggers are there and once they are figured out, his behavior can be changed. Now that Tango has been here six months, he is much more relaxed with our staff and volunteers. He has taken walks with another large dog and a medium sized dog while on a leash. All dogs behaved appropriately, walking calmly on a loose lead in the field. We did not try a walk with a small dog yet but we now believe that Tango could happily walk in his neighborhood or even go running with new owner (on leash). Tango flat refuses to go into a crate. He is perfectly house trained so why this is is a mystery but as beneficial as crate training can be, it has apparently been misused with Tango and so we're not suggesting it. Now for the good stuff. He's absolutely, stunningly beautiful. His coat will make your groomer want to run her hands over him all day. People will stop you in the street to ask where he came from. He loves to catch balls and will chase and fetch and entertain himself quite happily. They don't always come back to you but that can be trained. Tango loves to jump and will jump straight up 4 feet. He needs muscle tone and exercise desperately and when he gets that and some teaching, he should be ready to take on whatever challenge you want to do . Hiking, agility, nosework...Tango has the spirit, the drive and the intelligence to do it all. But first he has to make up his mind that he wants to and you will never convince him to do so using coercion or any type of force. He's done with that. In the right hands, this beautiful dog will be a fabulous, if somewhat challenging, addition to your home. He is not easy and he is not for everyone but we are convinced that somewhere out there, his perfect owner will find him. Tango's perfect home - we think Tango would respond better to a female owner who lives alone or with a partner. Tango needs exercise and attention. He is not for the person who work 12 hours a day. He wants to be part of your life, help you cook dinner, and get you out of the house for lots of long walks and hikes. If you are interested in a true partner who would like to do basic obedience and agility, or nosework or rally or whatever, Tango is right there with ya, Tangos' breeder is working with us to find the perfect home and we have his AKC papers to register him as a companion if you want to compete in sports (please note, Tango's sister has multiple titles in rally obedience and agility. We think he can give sis a run for her money with the right owner). What Tango knows so far - sit, shake, down, walk on a loose lead. That's a good start. He is very, very bright and needs that intelligence to be channeled into activities he enjoys and can excel at. How I act when I first meet new people: Friendly with good manners especially if you are carrying treats on first meet. House trained? Tango is reportedly fully house trained. He will not soil his run at our poodle farm. My age: 04/01/2013 actual birthdate (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-13-00523Sidney (female)

Poodle Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Sidney! Breed: Maltese Gender: female Adoption Fee: $ I'm special Date into Rescue: 02/2/2012 Reason for being in rescue: Read description Foster location: Charlotte NC Special Needs? YES - Read below Weight: Est 12 lbs Height: Est 11' 8/8/2015 update from foster family - please make sure you read the original information regarding Sidney. Sidney has been with us for three months. During this time, we have lovingly addressed any aggressive behavior and Sidney seems to be settling down in our home. As her description explains, she has gotten very attached to the me but she is doing well with my husband. Once you ... (Read More)get past her behavior, she is an incredible girl. Her coat is beautiful, but very high maintenance. I have heard folks refer to it as a cotton coat...fluffy. She loves to be with us and would love to have a family of her own and be showered with attention. She would love to be the only pet of the family. However, due to her behavior, you need to be very committed. Sidney has all her vaccination updated, blood work done and had a dental. We look forward to continuing to work with Sidney and help her find her perfect forever home! ORIGINAL INFORMATION - The West Tennessee Drug Task Force pulled over a U-Haul towing a minivan on I-40 near mile marker 42 around 11:00am on Tuesday, January 17, 2012. Instead of finding drugs, they found 141 dogs and 1 cat in the minivan and cargo area of the U-Haul without food or water. Members of the Fayette County Animal Rescue were called to the scene, and determined that the dogs were 'being held in conditions that violate Tennessee law.' According to reports at the scene, the animals were tied into cages with zip ties, appeared underweight, and their fur was matted with their own waste. Several animals were not caged, running loose in the U-Haul cargo space. The animals had been on the road since Saturday. This is where Sidney came from. This is the only information of her past that is known, and it is obviously not a positive piece of her history. Sidney's behavior more than reflects a trouble past and it will take a very special person to adopt her. Sidney can be the most wonderful, sweet and loving dog that you have ever met. She will follow you off leash, ride well in your car and keep her crate clean for a few hours at a time. Sidney will ONLY bond with a female, and this is not debatable. She must be adopted to a home who has females living in it only. She will run up to a male (and some women, too) and nip at their ankles, while constantly barking and growling. If she is spooked enough, she will bite and make contact. She is not going to bond with ANYONE immediately, it is going to take some time. Sidney has bitten several people in her time here, but never anyone that she trusts. If you can gain Sid's trust, you will have an awesome little shadow dog. There is a video of her meeting a male and him luring her with treats - when the treats were all gone, she proceeded to bark, growl and back away from him. Her house training is quite frankly pretty terrible. She WILL use the bathroom outside if you keep her on a very strict routine and take her out multiple times a day. If you turn your head, however, and she has to go... she will! Sidney walks perfectly on a leash and even better off leash (in a safe fenced in environment only). Once she bonds with you, she thinks you are the ruler of the world and will give you her entire heart. Sidney is familiar with being in a home as she was adopted once before and it did not work out, through no fault of her own. She knows what it's like to curl up on a nice cozy bed, or in her favorite spot on the couch. She likes to be in a home. Sid gets along wonderfully with other dogs and would be a great companion to your current pet. She would also be fine as an only dog, as she would love to absorb all of the attention, all the time. Sidney does not know any commands but is an intelligent girl who could learn with some training. Who I am seeking: A very, very experienced, patient female. You must be committed to taking things very slow and giving her a minimum of 30 days to get to know you. Absolutely no children in Sidney's life - no exceptions. Age: est birthdate 02/02/2010 Please note - we will not place Sidney in a home with children under 16. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Ragged and stinking, hair loss and scabs and fleas and dirt, it was hard to tell what was going on until a professional took a look. Diagnosis? Sarcoptic mange on every single one of them - and some have demodex mange. Colby is one with demodex. He will need a lifetime of care for this condition but it is not contagious to other dogs or to humans. Revolution works well as a treatment and since all dogs need heartworm and flea/tick preventative anyway, Revolution is the way to go. Colby is sweet and shy - we have done about as much rehab as we can do here, now all he needs is for someone to love him. Colby would do best with a family who already has atleast one other dog - as he is very shy and opens up with other dogs. He has always been surrounded by them and would really thrive much quicker with a sibling! Colby is crate trained though not leash trained or fully house trained yet. He needs someone to teach him these things! Colby is bonded to his brother Midori. Colby has been diagnosed with Demodex mange, and will be on an oral medication potentially for the rest of his life. Demodex is triggered by stress (is also genetic) so there is a chance that in the future, he can come off of his medication. He takes it very well now and the medication is affordable. Who I am seeking: Someone who will love me and my brother. Age: est 1 year 6 months Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. Rescue Me ID: 14-10-18-00454Sherlock (male)

Poodle Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Sherlock! Breed: Shep a doodle - old english sheepdog and standard poodle mix Gender: male Date into Rescue: 7/31/14 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release, can't handle Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? YES -Behavior Weight: Est 50 lbs Height: Est 25 ' Adoption fee: $329 Age: birthdater 10/6/2009 (Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We go with what we are told) What is my personality like? Sherlock's sad past history of shock-collar training (since he was a year old until he came to us, Sherlock wore an electric shock training collar at ... (Read More)all times) makes me cry every time I think of it. This is abuse plain and simple - to be continually shocked for the slightest transgression would drive me crazy too. Sherlock developed some bad, and quite frankly, sad, habits. After being assessed by a trainer, we believe it will take a very long time - possibly years to undo the damage that has been done to this guy. He is very strong on a leash but will walk alongside you, especially when he is wearing a harness. Sherlock is a bright dog with many skills. Cues he knows include : sit, wait (stay), up (stand up from laying down), down (to lay down), leave-it (walk away from whatever it is he's smelling, eating, doing etc.), kennel (go to his kennel), heel, here (his recall/come). There are a few other commands that he knew like 'place' and 'look sharp' but the previous owner did not reinforce these commands. Sherlock does have some resource guarding tendencies, especially inside of his crate over his food bowl. This is most evident when other dogs approach him. Our caregiver can now put his bowl in and take it out of the crate with no issues. This is a huge improvement from when he first came here. Also, according to what his previous owner witnessed with him, he does not like to be approached while he is lying down. He will growl, show teeth and or bite. We have not seen this at the farm, however farm-life and home-life are two different things, and he may resort to this behavior again once he is back in a home. Also according to his behavior with his previous owner, he could not be bathed or groomed without a muzzle. At first, we were able to do both without a muzzle here, but again he is out of his comfort zone, and sometimes dog's do not show their 'true nature' until they are comfortable. A few months into his stay with CPR, he did get wild during grooming and we chose to get him shaved down under sedation but we're going to try again. We have had two bite incidents at the farm with Sherlock. In both cases, Sherlock warned the caregiver repeatedly and the warning one time was ignored and the second time, Sherlock had a rag wrapped around his foot and it was cutting off circulation. Our caregiver was a new one and did not know he had time to call for help so he tried to remove the rag himself. It was painful and Sherlock snapped at him In both cases, the bite broke skin but did not require stitches or a doctor's visit. On a positive note, Sherlock is a happy, affectionate dog. There is much more to him than some bad habits, he loves attention and he loves to be petted. Sherlock is house and crate trained, and is VERY well mannered indoors. He really is a sweet dog who could make someone a wonderful companion, if you are are strong dog leader who understands this dog must always be closely monitored and whose energy must be drawn to positive activities. He loves to run and would make a great jogging or hiking companion. Who I am seeking: Because of his behavior, we understand Sherlock may be with for the rest of his life so he is available for virtual adoption and is seeking sponsors to help us afford to care for him. If you hate shocking dogs as much as I do, then consider Sherlock as your virtually adoptable favorite guy. Thinking you can handle him - we have requirements for Sherlock. He must be adopted by someone who is a very experienced dog-owner. Preferably someone who has experience with the breed and with the behaviors that we are describing. He must be an only dog - other animals overwhelm him and spark some of these bad habits of his. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! Please note - we do not ship dogs.
