Rescue Me ID: 15-03-28-00151Lucas (male)

Poodle    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Lucas! Breed: miniature poodle Gender: male Adoption Fee: $169 Location - foster home in Raleigh NC We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. You never know which dog will walk right into your heart when you meet them. Date into Rescue: 10/05/2014 Reason for being in rescue: owner release/can't care for Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? blind in one eye Weight: est 12 lbs needs to be 15 Height: est 12' at the shoulder Why am I up for adoption - owner got Lucas several months ago, free to good home on craigslist. she can't care ... (Read More)for him so put him on a free pet website and CPR stepped in What is my personality like? sweetheart How I act when I first meet new people: loving My age: around 7 It's hard to get perfect in man or beast, but Lucas comes pretty close. He's a happy, affectionate little guy and it's had to believe how much he's been bounced around in his life but he has. Passed from owner to owner (I tracked back 4 before I got him) he's survived because he can get along - with just about anything. Unfortunately, the folks who passed Lucas from hand to hand often did so to avoid the medical problems that were starting to pile up. It was nothing earth shattering, but left untreated in man or beast, a bad tooth will cause problems. By the time we got him, Lucas had lost half his body weight from not being able to eat and had a raging infection. One dental later and the bouncy boy started showing his true personality and it was all good. The other untreated problem was vision. Lucas had an obvious cataract in one eye, and it was slowing him down a lot. He had started occasionally grumping at other dogs when they bumped into him. After all, he could not see them coming. Earlier this week, we changed all that by getting that cataract removed and a new one put in. Lucas vision is coming back and with it a sparkling personality. Here's notes from his foster mom: I have only had Lucas a few hours, but what a great dog! He likes other dogs, car rides, men, cuddling, going to Petsmart for a harness, where he charmed everyone, and adapts to anything so easily! And he doesn't bark, even when my crazy dogs do! Lucas lived with me for several days and even with his vision impaired, he got along great. He needs a little help with leash training as he pulls some and he needs direction on house training which he is getting now. He is great in his crate, sleeps soundly through the night and never fusses. All together Lucas is a great dog who needs a final final forever home. He has follow up visits at one week, three weeks and six weeks post surgery. Our ideal would be a home in the Raleigh NC area that can continue with his post surgery care during this time. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Rescue Me ID: 15-03-21-00037Spanky of Anderson (male)

Poodle    Age: Senior

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Spanky! Breed: miniature poodle Gender: Male Adoption Fee: $75 We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. You never know which dog will walk right into your heart when you meet them. Date into Rescue: 10/30/2014 Reason for being in rescue: owner release to an upstate SC shelter, can't take care of Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? none Weight: est 16 lbs Height: est 12 ' Why am I up for adoption - Spanky needs to start a new life .The one he had can't take care of him anymore What is my personality like? Spanky is exceptionally friendly and ... (Read More)happy all the time How I act when I first meet new people: friendly My age: birthdate estimated to be 10/11/2005 Spanky will never win a beauty contest. He's got wiry hair and pretty much always looks like he just got out of bed. He doesn't shed but he also isn't curly like a poodle should be. He has some dry eye issues and we use artifical tears to keep his eyes from becoming red rimmed. When we first got Spanky he looked like he was hung over all the time from his eyes not being treated and he had lost all the hair around his eyes. That's gone now and he's a new boy in that area. He is okay on his house training. He hates a crate and insists on sleeping in his foster mom's room, curled on a dog bed next to her. He gets along very well with other dogs large and small and I don't think he's met a human he didn't like. If Spanky were a guy, he would be on the cast of The Big Bang theory. He's so serious all the time it makes him funny too. He is bright and curious, always ready to take on a new role in life and yet there is a goofiness about him that makes you want to laugh when you see him. All Spanky really asks is to be in the same room with you, part of you life and never shut out. He's a low maintenance kind of guy with room in his heart for many different types of families. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. He will sit that way for an hour. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: est 6 years old so we're listing a birthdate of 3/14/2009 Duffy is a doll - that is why the way it is. He is so happy all the time and he wants to please you and to be with you . Duff is crate trained and so far, he's does not appear to want to go in the house. He gets along really well other dogs and with all people. Duffy will have his teeth cleaned Wednesday 3/18. Then he'll be ready for a perfect home. Please excuse these bad pictures. He's much cuter in person. Please note - we do not ship dogs. Happy and very quiet Who I am seeking: A quiet home, somebody to hang out with. I like to go outside and see the birds and then come back in and sleep on my bed ... (Read More)Age: est 13 years old per the person who turned her in to a shelter Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! How I act when I first meet new people: Inquisitive Phoebe has been somebody's baby and pampered, well cared for and loved. She was turned in with the reason given 'she has cancer.' There are some scars on her abdomen that may have been a tumor removal surgery but since you do not get vet records from a shelter, there is no way to know for sure. She's been x rayed and examined and our vet can find no sign of cancer now. Phoebe is a quiet girl who walked into my home as if she had always been there. She's complacent with whoever chooses to share the big bed in the hallway with her and if she's got it to herself, that's okay too. She stretches out and takes up the whole thing. She comes running for treats and mealtimes always ready with a wagging tail for whatever yummy is being given to her. Phoebe has been house trained at some point and will pick those habits up very quickly when a routine is established. She will walk on a leash but is enjoying the freedom of a fenced in yard. The name Phoebe means 'bright and pure'and that is a good summary of this sweetheart. She is happy and well adjusted, beautiful and easy to live with. Whether that's a few days or a few months or a few years, we're going to give that time to her to shine on. Please note - we do not ship dogs. Yes: Must have fenced in yard, a lot of experience, at least one other dog, no kids, stay at home mom/don't leave the house more than 5 hours a day, see below for more details Weight: 7 lbs Height: 10.5' at the shoulders What is my personality like? (Written by foster mom) I received a call to the 'poodle hotline' about a little poodle that was purchased a week prior to the phone call. The folks calling thought that they had ... (Read More)'rescued' him (and it turns out, they truly saved his life), but it seems as though they purchased him from someone flipping small dogs for money. Needless to say, they took him home and let him out in their fenced in yard to use the bathroom. They could not catch him and he spent about 5 days out in the freezing cold hiding from them. As soon as I got the call, I took off with a coworker to try and catch him. To make a long story short, it took two and a half hours and several puncture wounds later- but we got him. He was so terrified and shook like a leaf for about a week. I decided to take him home with me, as I knew he could not survive in a kennel type environment. Beau (prefers to be called Bobo) did not come out of his crate for 5 days. He did not eat, drink water, pee, poop for 5 days. I gave him a lot of space and he started to come around. I could only get him to drink water by dipping my fingers in it and letting him lick the water off of my hand. I made him trail a 6 foot leash for over two weeks as he is a complete flight risk. He was walked only in a fenced in yard. Beau came to me with a very serious case of whip worms, which he has now been treated for. Beau is also getting a dental today (3/11/15). It has now been a month and Beau is my little buddy. He is a complete 'velcro' personality who has so much love to give. He will follow every step that I take, whimper when I leave, and lick me to death when I pet him or pick him up. Beau is playful and rambunctious when he wants to be. He follows me off leash (though I never trust him outside of a fenced in area) and will come every time I call him. He loves people food, though I am trying to break that habit. He truly is a little joy to have around. Beau will likely never be a social butterfly. He will get comfortable around one person but he will never be the type who needs to be around large crowds. He is terrified of new people and new things, though he is learning slowly. I am not sure what has happened in his past, but his behavior surely reflects something very negative. He is completely house trained now, and crate trained. He will not sleep in a crate overnight, he prefers to be in the bed with you. He will, however, stay in the crate if you have to leave the house for any reason. Beau has separation anxiety and will not be adopted out to someone who works full time, unless you are working from home. Ideally a single woman who works from home or is retired would be his best match. Beau will likely only bond with one person in the home. Who I am seeking: Very experienced, stay at home mom or part-time worker, fenced in yard, at least one other dog any size or breed, a lot of patience, Age: 3 years old, DOB is 12/10/2011 Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! How I act when I first meet new people: Please note - we do not ship dogs. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. Rescue Me ID: 15-03-12-00662Princess Bride (female)

Poodle    Age: Senior

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Prncess! Breed: toy poodle Gender: Female Adoption Fee: $200 Date into Rescue: 7/31/2011 yes Princess has been here a long time but there's a reason. keep reading for more on her story Reason for being in rescue: released by a breeder to a shelter, shelter reached out to CPR Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? yes - cataract in one eye inoperable, is blind, corrected cataract in second eye Weight: Est ' 11 lbs Height: Est '10 at the shoulder What is my personality like? sweet and affectionate once she gets to know you Who I am seeking: a home where I can be the #1 princess but I sure ... (Read More)would like a sister to play with Age: birthdate estimated to be 7/31/2005 and that is a guess based on the cataract surgeon's assessment. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! What a story this one has been. Princess arrived at our farm in the summer of 2011. She was dirty, scared and shy and it was difficult to get close to her. We at least got her a bath and that was when it was discovered that she was not just fluffy but she was also chubby for another reason. Princess was pregnant. Two puppies later (8 weeks to grow them and 8 more weeks to raise them), it is well into 2014 and Princess has settled into life with me as her foster mom. As the director of CPR, very challenging cases often come home with me. Changing a dog from back yard breeder mom to pampered princess isn't a fast or easy process. Add to it the growing cataracts in her eyes, and my own commitment to getting those cataracts fixed definitely slowed down the possible adoption process. CPR is still growing and I am still learning how to find the resources necessary to fix what is wrong and make them whole. For the last several years, Princess had settled into a routine with me and had been accepted into my family as one of our own. She was spayed, had her teeth cleaned, was brought up to date on routine shots and she learned that being groomed isn't such a bad thing. Visitors are now welcomed and barked at to encourage the picking up process. She sleeps in the bed with us - on her back with all four feet in the air. I think she's pretty spoiled. Earlier this year, thanks to the generosity of others, I was able to give Princess the gift I had been waiting to give her for a long time. At this point she was totally blind. While I wish I could say we restored her sight totally, sadly it was too late for her left as the retina had detached. Her right was fixable and we did it. She has one more follow up and there is some concern as there is some debris in the eye. It's not making her blind but she isn't as perfect as I would like - however it's a start and she now has vision. So why after almost 4 years with my family would I finally put Princess up for adoption? She's treated just as if she is mine and for all this time she has been mine. I love hear dearly and if she never places, I'm okay with that too but I know that Princess wants something better. Princess wants to be the princess of someone's heart and my heart is already taken . With me, she is one of many, never the #1 girl and she never will be. That spot already belongs to another. Somewhere out there I know she can be someone's #1 girl. I want that for her - to be not the princess waiting for her place but the queen - the queen of someone's heart. Princess does not show well. If you decide to come to meet Princess bear in mind she will spend most of her time looking at the door, wondering where I am. I have been her security and her rock for many years now and the times before her life here were not good times. She doesn't understand there is so much better. I think she will learn if someone takes the time it will take her to be taught. I don't know how long that will be. For the first transition, it was months but now she knows people are cool. I hope it will be only weeks. Princess rides well in a car and has no idea what a leash is. She's a wild farm child, running like the wind through our pastures and hills. She's never lived in a town and will need to be taught how to walk like a lady on a leash to go to parks and stores but I think she can learn. She is trained to use a potty pad for her bathroom needs. She eats very well loves to play with other dogs. She needs a buddy. So if you are out there - someone with a heart for rescue and a lap that is empty and a poodle who needs a BFF - come talk to me. Let's see if this princess I found under all that dirt and fear actually belongs to you. I've tried to take good care of her for you. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. (Less)

I have a 7.5 year old shipoo. I rescued her 3 years ago from a very bad situation. She is very sweet and loveable. Due to extenuating circumstances, I can no longer keep her and need to make sure she has a good home. She does fine with other animals. She would do best in a home with children over 10. I have 2 children ages 9 and 6 and she loves them, but if they make her nervous by being too rowdy or try to get in her face she will snap at them. She is nervous around most men as she was previously abused by a man, but again, she has gotten a lot better with that too. She loves women and will bond quickly. She is not house trained. She ... (Read More)will go outside, but I also find 'accidents' in the house. She does love being in a crate she can see out of and will often go there herself and when I leave, she runs to the crate and waits for her treat %81S When I rescued her she was living in a bathroom and had never been outside so it took some time, but she does like to go outside and take walks. It will take her some adjusting before she is comfortable with her new family and will need to be careful to make sure she can't slip out of her collar but once she is comfortable, they will love her as much as I do. She does get nervous with a lot of people around, but once she has accepted a female as her person, she will look to her for security. She is very loving and sweet. She is a totally different dog than she was before I rescued her. I need to do this as quickly as possible. I don't want her to have to go to a shelter. She would not do well in a shelter. Please let me know if you can help or if you know a place that can. This is an extremely hard decision, but I have thought it through and know that this is the best thing for her. (Less)

This is the only information of her past that is known, and it is obviously not a positive piece of her history. Sidney's behavior more than reflects a trouble past and it will take a very special person to adopt her. Sidney can be the most wonderful, sweet and loving dog that you have ever met. She will follow you off leash, ride well in your car and keep her crate clean for a few hours at a time. Sidney will ONLY bond with a female, and this is not debatable. She must be adopted to a home who has females living in it only. She will run up to a male (and some women, too) and nip at their ankles, while constantly barking and growling. If she is spooked enough, she will bite and make contact. She is not going to bond with ANYONE immediately, it is going to take some time. Sidney has bitten several people in her time here, but never anyone that she trusts. If you can gain Sid's trust, you will have an awesome little shadow dog. There is a video of her meeting a male and him luring her with treats - when the treats were all gone, she proceeded to bark, growl and back away from him. Her house training is quite frankly pretty terrible. She WILL use the bathroom outside if you keep her on a very strict routine and take her out multiple times a day. If you turn your head, however, and she has to go... she will! Sidney walks perfectly on a leash and even better off leash (in a safe fenced in environment only). Once she bonds with you, she thinks you are the ruler of the world and will give you her entire heart. Sidney is familiar with being in a home as she was adopted once before and it did not work out, through no fault of her own. She knows what it's like to curl up on a nice cozy bed, or in her favorite spot on the couch. She likes to be in a home. Sid gets along wonderfully with other dogs and would be a great companion to your current pet. She would also be fine as an only dog, as she would love to absorb all of the attention, all the time. Sidney does not know any commands but is an intelligent girl who could learn with some training. Who I am seeking: A very, very experienced, patient female. You must be committed to taking things very slow and giving her a minimum of 30 days to get to know you. Absolutely no children in Sidney's life - no exceptions. Age: est 6 years Please note - we will not place Sidney in a home with children under 16. Rescue Me ID: 14-12-23-00162Colby (male)

Poodle Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Colby! Breed: yorkie poo Gender: male Adoption Fee: $200 Date into Rescue: 8/22/14 Reason for being in rescue: Owner Release Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? No Weight: Est 10 lbs Height: Est 9' Why am I with a rescue? Carolina Poodle Rescue saved 21 poodle mixes from Washington NC. It started with a call from a eastern NC shelter. 7 little babies, poodle mixes, brought in by a local who was being threatened by DSS to take her grandchildren out of her home if conditions didn't improve. 7 went to the shelter. 7 were called in to us. It ended with 21 little souls all together - most of them ... (Read More)under a year - being picked up by CPR after we got directly in touch with the owner and offered our services. 21 doggies were transported to a vet to be checked. Ragged and stinking, hair loss and scabs and fleas and dirt, it was hard to tell what was going on until a professional took a look. Diagnosis? Sarcoptic mange on every single one of them - and some have demodex mange. Colby is one with demodex. He will need a lifetime of care for this condition but it is not contagious to other dogs or to humans. Revolution works well as a treatment and since all dogs need heartworm and flea/tick preventative anyway, Revolution is the way to go. What is my personality like? Colby is now fully vetted and on the search for his forever home. He is a little shy at first and definitely needs to be adopted to someone who has at least one other dog. He loves other animals and would thrive best in a home where he could learn from an older brother or sister. Colby is a real sweet heart! Who I am seeking: Someone who will love me Age: est 1 year 6 months Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! Rescue Me ID: 14-10-18-00454Sherlock (male)

Poodle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Sherlock! Breed: OES/Poodle Gender: male Adoption Fee: $350 Date into Rescue: 7/31/14 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? YES -Behavior Weight: Est 50 lbs Height: Est 25 ' What is my personality like? Because of Sherlocks' history of shock-collar training, he has unfortunately developed some bad, and quite frankly, sad, habits. After being assessed by a trainer, we believe it will take several months, possibly years to undo the damage that has been done to this guy. He is very strong on a leash but will walk alongside you, especially when he is ... (Read More)wearing a harness. Commands he knows: sit, wait (stay), up (stand up from laying down), down (to lay down), leave-it (walk away from whatever it is he's smelling, eating, doing etc.), kennel (go to his kennel), heel, here (his recall/come). There are a few other commands that he knew like 'place' and 'look sharp' but the previous owner did not reinforce these commands. Sherlock does have some resource guarding tendencies, especially inside of his crate over his food bowl. Also, according to what his previous owner witnessed with him, he does not like to be approached while he is lying down. He will growl, show teeth and or bite. We have not seen this at the farm, however farm-life and home-life are two different things, and he may resort to this behavior again once he is back in a home. Also according to his behavior with his previous owner, he could not be bathed or groomed without a muzzle. We were able to do both without a muzzle here, but again he is out of his comfort zone, and sometimes dog's do not show their 'true nature' until they are comfortable. On a positive note, Sherlock is a happy, affectionate dog. There is much more to him than some bad habits, he loves attention. Sherlock is house and crate trained, and is VERY well mannered indoors. He really is a sweet dog who could make someone a wonderful companion, if you are willing to put in a little time and effort. Who I am seeking: Sherlock must be adopted by someone who is a very experienced dog-owner. Preferably someone who has experience with the breed and with the behaviors that we are describing. He must be an only dog - other animals overwhelm him and spark some of these bad habits of his. Age: est 5 years old Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! How I act when I first meet new people: Please note - we do not ship dogs. These great folks at CPR saw us and rescued all 4 of us. While I was waiting for my ride to Dreamweaver Farms, they discovered that I had a bad uterine infection. They took me to the veterinarian who immediately spayed me and now I am well on my way to a full recovery. My stitches were removed on May 2 and I am ready to find my forever home! lnteresting Poodle Trivia Low-Cost South Carolina Spay & Neuter Clinics
Poodles appear in art from ancient Rome. Poodles do not shed and are popular for breeding with other dogs to produce a relatively non-allergenic hybrid. The name Poodle comes from a German word describing someone who likes the water. Poodles are widely considered to be French, but there is debate over whether they may have originated in Germany or Denmark.
