Rescue Me ID: 14-12-15-00099Ivan (male)

Poodle    Age: Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Ivan! Breed: Standard Poodle Gender: Male Adoption Fee: $350 Date into Rescue: 10/4/14 Reason for being in rescue: Owner Release Foster location: Daytona Beach, Florida Special Needs? No Weight: Est 54lbs Height: Est 25' What is my personality like? I am calm and loveable but shy. If you are patient I will warm up to you. I like to play with toys especially squeaky balls and chew bones, and I love my standard poodle foster siblings. I have been recently taught by my foster siblings to chase squirrels and I am very good at it! I am house trained, crate trained and walk pretty well on a leash. I know how to sit and ... (Read More)am working on other basic commands. Who I am seeking: Someone to make me the center of their life- a quiet, patient, loving family who will give me time to blossom. I'd prefer a family with at least one adult who would stay home with me. Kids are OK as long as they are older and calm. I would love to have another mellow standard poodle or larger dog in the home but it is not a deal breaker if you don't have one. Must have a fenced yard as I love the outside. Age: 1 birthdate 12/4/13 Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! How I act when I first meet new people: I am shy and won't come to you unless you have a snack. I am very food motivated and warm up as long as you keep those snacks coming. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Poodle Mix    Age: Senior

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Princess of Columbia! Breed: poodle/ shih tzu Gender: Female Adoption Fee: $125 We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. (Read More)turn in, not sure why What is my personality like? Princess would make an excellent companion dog to a retired couple who just likes to relax! She is very, very sweet. Princess is quiet, calm and well mannered. You can look in her eyes and see that she is missing someone. We have seen some tail wags, but they are very far and few between. Princess is as easy as they come - she does not 'argue' over anything. She coexists (but not much interaction) wonderfully with all of the dogs in her play group, and every dog or cat that she has had contact with since her time here with us. She always keeps her crate clean, and her food bowl empty. Princess recently had a dental cleaning, and only had 2 extractions. No Weight: Est 25 lbs Height: Est 13' What is my personality like? Betsy is a very unique, special little girl. She came to us a month ago, and it was obvious she had limited vision, and not to mention a loss of hair on her back. Despite all of these changes, and the fact that she could not see, her tail never stopped wagging. She has been the most gentle, sweet and perfect resident at CPR. Betsy is fully crate ... She really is the sweetest dog you will ever meet!!!! Betsy just went to the vet last week to get a good grasp on her eyes and skin condition. We found out that Betsy does have a heart murmer (grade 3 out of 5), and is now on some medication to help control her heart. She is blind in her left eye, and limited in her right. It is very obvious that he was once a beloved companion, as he is very friendly and affectionate. He knows how to sit in a lap, and absolutely ... (Read More)enjoys it! He is very curious and interested in new things, he sniffs around and checks out all of his surroundings. He doesn't immediately show attention to potential adopters, but given some time he warms up and becomes your best friend. Mojo is not house trained, but he is doing much better in his foster home. He does well with a belly band, but needs to continue with his house training. This really is his only flaw. He is a perfectly behaved little gentleman in every other aspect. He has recently had a dental done on his teeth, and is as far as we know, healthy. Update 3/18/14: Mojo went to the Atlanta Pet Fair on March the 8-9th. He came down the 8th, spent the night at a voulnteers house and went to the rescue rodeo the 9th. On Saturday him and his friends that were participating in the pet fair were unloaded into the volunteers back yard. They romped and played until it was time to go inside and sleep for the night. Everyone woke up before the rooster crowed and headed over to the Hilton hotel to get ready for the rodeo. Mojo went back to get a bath and get started on grooming around 8 AM, they were finished around 1. After judging before the groomer could even get him off the table people were coming up and asking how to adopt him. Mojo was a hit at the pet fair, and had a wonderful time. Rescue Me ID: 14-10-18-00454Sherlock (male)

Poodle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Sherlock! Breed: OES/Poodle Gender: male Adoption Fee: $350 Date into Rescue: 7/31/14 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? YES -Behavior Weight: Est 50 lbs Height: Est 25 ' What is my personality like? Because of Sherlocks' history of shock-collar training, he has unfortunately developed some bad, and quite frankly, sad, habits. After being assessed by a trainer, we believe it will take several months, possibly years to undo the damage that has been done to this guy. He is very strong on a leash but will walk alongside you, especially when he is ... (Read More)wearing a harness. Commands he knows: sit, wait (stay), up (stand up from laying down), down (to lay down), leave-it (walk away from whatever it is he's smelling, eating, doing etc.), kennel (go to his kennel), heel, here (his recall/come). There are a few other commands that he knew like 'place' and 'look sharp' but the previous owner did not reinforce these commands. Sherlock does have some resource guarding tendencies, especially inside of his crate over his food bowl. Also, according to what his previous owner witnessed with him, he does not like to be approached while he is lying down. He will growl, show teeth and or bite. We have not seen this at the farm, however farm-life and home-life are two different things, and he may resort to this behavior again once he is back in a home. Also according to his behavior with his previous owner, he could not be bathed or groomed without a muzzle. We were able to do both without a muzzle here, but again he is out of his comfort zone, and sometimes dog's do not show their 'true nature' until they are comfortable. On a positive note, Sherlock is a happy, affectionate dog. There is much more to him than some bad habits, he loves attention. Sherlock is house and crate trained, and is VERY well mannered indoors. He really is a sweet dog who could make someone a wonderful companion, if you are willing to put in a little time and effort. Who I am seeking: Sherlock must be adopted by someone who is a very experienced dog-owner. Preferably someone who has experience with the breed and with the behaviors that we are describing. He must be an only dog - other animals overwhelm him and spark some of these bad habits of his. Age: est 5 years old Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! How I act when I first meet new people: Please note - we do not ship dogs. Rescue Me ID: 14-10-18-00445Cole Johnson (male)

Poodle    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Cole Johnson! Breed: standard poodle Gender: female Adoption Fee: $300 Date into Rescue: 9/13/14 Reason for being in rescue: Owner Release Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? No Weight: Est '52 lbs Height: Est '24 What is my personality like? Intense, very focused and serious although he has a snuggle me side. Who I am seeking: Cole's best fit will be an owner who wants to have an interactive, interesting relationship with his dog. Cole is very bright, learns things easily and has a high prey drive and food motivation making him very easy to train. He is not a couch potato. Cole ... (Read More)wants to go and do. Age: birthdate 2/232007 Cole is another standard who came to us because of a shock fence. Through his first 7 years of life, Cole was confined with an 'electric' fence - and that's not a fence at all but a collar around his neck that delivered an electric shock if he came too close to a boundary he could not see. As often happens when this device is used, Cole became territorial about what he had defined for him by shock - his own yard. Over his 7 years, on two occasions a stranger entered his yard, once on a bicycle and Cole gave chase. His owners told me they could not fence the yard and so Cole had to go. Cole has lived his life as one of a pair since the owners purchased a pair of puppies. Cole's brother Rusty is more laid back than Cole and besides, he didn't need to guard the yard, his brother was already good at it. Good breeders do NOT sell litter mates together. The owner had found that through research. While Cole has been very good with the 5 standards, the doodle and the hound in his foster home, his foster mom thinks he would very much enjoy being the only child in his new home. Cole also is not good with cats at all and if you adopt Cole your yard will be cat free. He is good with some small dogs especially small poodles but for some reason he doesn't like chihuahua's or dachshunds but has no problem with a miniature pinscher. I can only imagine what must have teased him behind the shock fence to bring out these types of traits. He is absolutely wonderful on leash - taking him to a park or Petsmart is no problem at all but he doesn't need to live with a chihuahua type. So that's all the bad. The good is - totally house trained, walks well on a leash with a front hook halter. Has all his basic obedience down pat. He is great in a crate but is just as happy on a dog bed at your feet. He doesn't chew, he doesn't even get on the furniture unless you tell him it is okay. He's been well cared for medically and it shows. He isn't crazy about having his feet trimmed but a lot of dogs don't. His former owner kept him in a doodle cut. We're doing his feet and letting his top knot grow out and he is looking good. He's a beautiful dog with a strong head on his shoulder and with the right family, there is no telling how far he'll go. Cole doesn't like cameras and won't look right at one . Maybe that will change when he's truly happy. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! How I act when I first meet new people: friendly Please note - we do not ship dogs. Poodle Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Sam! Breed: yorkie poo Gender: male Adoption Fee: $250 Date into Rescue: 8/22/14 Reason for being in rescue: Owner Release Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? No Weight: Est 15lbs Height: Est ' 14 inches Why am I with a rescue? Carolina Poodle Rescue saved 21 poodle mixes from Washington NC. It started with a call from a eastern NC shelter. 7 little babies, poodle mixes, brought in by a local who was being threatened by DSS to take her grandchildren out of her home if conditions didn't improve. 7 went to the shelter. 7 were called in to us. It ended with 21 little souls all together - ... (Read More)most of them under a year - being picked up by CPR after we got directly in touch with the owner and offered our services. 21 doggies were transported to a vet to be checked. Ragged and stinking, hair loss and scabs and fleas and dirt, it was hard to tell what was going on until a professional took a look. Diagnosis? Sarcoptic AND demodex mange. On every single one of them. What is my personality like? Sam has made a drastic behavior improvement since he first came to us. When he first arrived, we thought his vision was bad, as his eyes were very cloudy. As his health improved, so did his eyes - completely! They are as clear as the sky now. He was also one of shyest of them all. Sam would hide under chairs, tables, blankets anything he could find. It took us several minutes to catch him every single day. Now he has learned to trust us and wants to be our best friend! He is a sweet and quiet dog! Age: est between 10 months and 3 years Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! On Saturday him and his friends that were participating in the pet fair were unloaded into the volunteers back yard. They romped and played until it was time to go inside and sleep for the night. Everyone woke up before the rooster crowed and headed over to the Hilton hotel to get ready for the rodeo. Snoopy went back to get a bath and get started on grooming around 8 AM. lnteresting Poodle Trivia Low-Cost South Carolina Spay & Neuter Clinics
Poodles appear in art from ancient Rome. Poodles do not shed and are popular for breeding with other dogs to produce a relatively non-allergenic hybrid. Poodles have been used as circus performers. The name Poodle comes from a German word describing someone who likes the water. Poodles are widely considered to be French, but there is debate over whether they may have originated in Germany or Denmark.
